The small Syriac Orthodox community of Jerusalem can claim to be the heir of the first church of the apostles. The community speaks a dialect of Aramaic that is almost identical to the language spoken by Jesus and his apostles, and the community has preserved, over the trials of two millennia, a number of Judeo-Christian elements, especially in community's liturgy. This heroic church offers us the closest possible image of the first generations of Christianity.

The Coptic monastery of Saint Macarius is one of the rare places in the world that can boast of a permanent monastic presence since the Fourth Century. Today, this community of 120 members resides in an impressive monastery-fortress, that is both an ecological and spiritual oasis in the desert, and which holds an important place in the renewal of the Coptic Church. One of its many accomplishments is the restoration of the traditional Coptic singing, one of the most ancient and original musics of the world.

The Monastery of the Assumption at Beth Jamal is a contemplative community of nuns devoted to the perpetual adoration of the Holy Trinity and the presence of Christ in the Eucharist, with the Virgin Mary. Inspired by the organization of the Eastern lavras, the nuns live in silence and prayer, hidden from view. Their liturgical ceremonies follow the tradition of Eastern Christianity and are celebrated in local languages. Their singing is the expression of their contemplation.

The Greek Catholic monastery of Saint John of the Desert is at once a renowned site of Ecumenism and one of the most beautiful places in the Holy Land. Independent of any fashion, for several years it has been the pioneer in the adaptation of Byzantine music in the French language. The aim of the monastic choir is not so much vocal virtuosity but rather spiritual authenticity.
